EU firms slow in detecting cyber attacks: How WISER can help

European firms take an average of 469 days to discover a compromise. That's 323 days more than the other world regions assessed in a new Mandiant report.

While there are a few leading-edge organisations, most European organisations are still not checking their cyber vulnerabilities, putting at stake their IP, customer data and, ultimately, their reputation. The long amount of time between compromise and detection means attackers can progress through the full attack lifecycle and achieve multiple goals within their mission objectives.

As threat actors evolve their tools, technologies and procedures, it's crucial that businesses take a much more proactive approach to cyber security and don't wait to be attacked before taking action.

Cyber risk assessment and mitigation is now a lot easier with CyberWISER Light - a free service to enable organisations of all sizes to improve their cyber security. This is particularly important for SMEs. According to the UK Federation of Small Businesses, SMEs are unfairly carrying the cost of cyber crime in an increasingly vulnerable digital economy.

CyberWISER Light has two steps: completing a questionnaire to get a company-specific cyber risk assessment with advice on how to improve its cyber security posture. This crucial first step means you defining the cyber security actions around the actual needs of the company.

In a second step, organisations can conduct a Vulnerability Test to find weaknesses in the IT system and then focus on vulnerabilities that pose a significant risk. The test can be repeated so companies get fresh data about their vulnerabilities, which is key to achieving maximum protection.
