Cybersecurity training - What do organisations need?

Human error has become a major weak point in cyber security today; one that is easily exploited by cyber criminals. In fact, according to a cybersecurity report by London-based consultancy Willis Towers Watson “approximately 90% of all cyber claims are the result of some type of human error or behaviour “.

On top of this we are also experiencing a large scale skills gap in the professional field; a report from Frost & Sullivan and (ISC)2 found that the global cybersecurity workforce will have more than 1.5 million unfilled positions by the end of 2020.

There is clearly a lack of qualified cyber security professionals and a need for a rise in the overall level of cyber awareness.

According to the National cyber security centre in the UK, users need a systematic delivery of awareness training programs as well as further development and practical training for staff in cybersecurity specialist roles.

In order to best address user needs and close the ever-greater skills gap a blended approach is required. An approach that includes customisable learning pathways using a combination of MOOC systems, as well as cyber ranges and even interactive sessions.

In practical terms, this style consists of providing some foundation to each trainee and to build capacities that are targeted to the specific needs of the company that trainee works for, this is what CYBERWISER.eu is founded on.

This sort of “customisable, blended approach” to cyber security training suggested by CYBERWISER.eu, one that is not just a ‘one size fits all’ method, is our suggestion for democratising cybersecurity among SMEs through efficiency and affordability.

It consists of training initiatives with customisable learning pathways using a combination of MOOC systems, as well as cyber ranges and even interactive sessions.

Courses are currently available for organisations that are willing to enjoy a fully-paid-for pilot, owing to the Innovation Action currently co-funded by the European Commission . For more information on these freely available “Open Pilots”, click here.
